Coping With Heartburn

In most cases, heartburn can be reduced or avoided all together by following the 8 recommendations below.

1. Raise the head of your bed 4"-6" with the G. I. Block

2. Avoid chocolate, citrus fruits, spearmint, peppermint and whole milk; foods that are spicy, acidic, fatty, fried and tomatoe based; and beverages with alcohol or caffeine (tea, coffee, colas).
3. Lose weight. Extra weight increases abdominal pressure and can cause reflux.

4. Don't stuff yourself.  Eat small meals high in carbohydrates and protein.
5. Stop smoking, or at least cut down.

6. Don't eat for 3 hours before bedtime.
7. Don't exercise, lie down or bend a lot immediately after eating.

8. Avoid tight fitting clothes
